The report reviews a number of FLTPC’s academic research work since its establishment in 1983, done to promote foreign language education and teaching experience and to strengthen inter-school collaboration under the guidance of the Party’s education policy. Professor Chen then reported on the main work of SETA in 2019, during which SETA learnt from the work of the China Association for Education Technology (CAET) and carefully studied Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, organized selections for excellent papers, participated in the 25th Annual Conference of FLTPC, CAET,  symposiums on “AI-led Smart Classrooms” and “Smart Classroom Practice”, and “Foreign Language Education and Teaching in the New Era: Challenges and Opportunities” conference, and accomplished many other activities. Professor Chen pointed out that, under the guidance of the 19th National Congress of the CPC and the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, SETA should adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, learn from the Party’s theme education activities, remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind. SETA will be committed to promoting the application of information technology in foreign language education, and continue to achieve innovation in industry-university-research cooperation.

Speech by Professor Chen Jianlin, Chairman of FLTPC, SETA

Adhering to the principles of industry-university-research cooperation advocated by the association, this conference established a collaborative platform for teachers and education technology providers, and exhibited the latest educational equipment and successful cases of smart classrooms, artificial intelligence classrooms and virtual simulation laboratories. In the integration of industry-university-research cooperation and teaching, SETA makes full use of “Internet+” big data to drive teaching and research work of colleges and universities to serve the country’s strategic needs and continuously strengthen discipline construction. SETA abides by the cooperative and innovative spirit of industry-university-research cooperation and has contributed to “first-class” discipline development, which helps win attention from and popularity among all members of the association.

SETA holds various academic conferences and selects excellent papers and teaching courseware each year, which has actively promoted the exchange and development of foreign language teaching and greatly encouraged teachers’ enthusiasm in teaching and research. This year, Sun Dongyun from Fu University, Meng Yu from Shanghai International Studies University, and Xiong Shuhui from USST won first prizes and delivered speeches. Ni Jincheng and Wang E’nuo from USST won second and third prizes respectively.
